The provincial skin and wound committee has a history of acting as a clinical advisory group to SAHO for the purpose of assisting in the selection of appropriate wound and skin products for the provincial contract. Several members of this committee were also instrumental in the formulation of the provincial skin and wound care guidelines that were produced in a cooperative effort by SAHO and Health Quality Council: these evidence-based guidelines outline the prevention and management of pressure ulcers, lower limb wounds and diabetic foot ulcers.
The objectives of the group are:
To mutually support each other in an expanded nursing role specializing in skin integrity and wound management.
To organize educational events and act as a resource for the provincial health regions.
To cooperate on an ongoing basis in the trial of new products as they are made available.
To support any locally offered Wounds Canada events by acting as regional faculty when requested.
To act in a consultative role when requested by the nurses and physicians of Saskatchewan
